T20 World Cup: Pakistan eliminated after USA-Ireland match ends in No Result
Pakistan has been eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup due to adverse weather in Lauderhill, which resulted in points being shared between Ireland and the USA. The United States and India have qualified for the Super Eight from Group A. USA have also secured a spot in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
For Pakistan, however, a tumultuous tournament ended with a premature exit under dismal skies, exemplifying the bleak tenor of their World Cup campaign.
They arrived in the United States without any warm-up games scheduled, and the majority of their practice matches were canceled due to weather. Their unfamiliarity was exploited by the home team in their first match, as the USA defeated them in the Super Over, before Pakistan collapsed while chasing 120 against India, losing by six runs.

An Ireland win would have kept Pakistani hopes alive
After losing to India, Pakistan was left to rely on other results, most notably the outcome of the game between the United States and Ireland in Lauderhill. An Irish victory would have kept Pakistan in contention, while any other outcome would have given the United States an unbeatable lead in the points tally over Pakistan.
Pakistan’s only win thus far has been a seven-wicket victory over Canada. They still have one game remaining, against Ireland, who were also eliminated as a result of the washout, on Sunday.

Worst T20 World Cup campaign for Pakistan
However, this does not imply that they will have to play qualifiers to clinch a spot at the next T20 World Cup, as their current T20I ranking of seventh is sufficient to assure a spot at the tournament in 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Pakistan had never been eliminated from a T20 World Cup so early, having played only three games before their fate was determined. They were also eliminated from the group stage in 2014 and 2016, but they advanced to the semi-finals on all other occasions. Pakistan has made more finals than any other team (England has three), and they won the title in 2009.
