On Tuesday, the Indian Government suspended the X account of Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif for disseminating “disinformation and fake news” regarding Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The development comes a day after 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, which have a combined 63 million subscribers, were banned in India for spreading “provocative and communally sensitive content.”
If someone in India attempts to view the X account of Pakistan’s Defence Minister, they will encounter a notification reading: “@KhawajaMAsif has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”
Asif has made several controversial remarks in past few days
In the past few days, Asif has issued multiple notable statements and assertions amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack that resulted in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, primarily tourists.

On Monday, the Pakistani minister asserted that an Indian military operation was likely after a deadly terrorist assault in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
“We have reinforced our forces because it is something which is imminent now. So, in that situation, some strategic decisions have to be taken, so those decisions have been taken,” Asif told news agency Reuters.
The Pahalgam attack has sparked anger in India, leading to calls from various regions nationwide for a vigorous response against Islamabad.
Asif recently admitted Pak has backed terror groups for decades
During an interview with a British news channel, Pakistan’s Defence Minister acknowledged that his nation had backed terrorist groups for numerous decades.
He admitted that Pakistan participated in “dirty work” for the West when questioned about Islamabad’s history of financing and supporting terrorist groups.
“We have been doing this dirty work for the US over the past three decades, involving the West and the UK,” he stated. Asif referred to it as a “mistake,” pointing out that Pakistan has suffered greatly due to its choices.
Meanwhile, India has announced several actions against Pakistan, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.
