After Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Thursday, asked International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to oversee Islamabad’s nuclear arsenal, Pakistan responded by labeling the statement as indicative of “sheer ignorance of the mandate and responsibilities” of the international nuclear regulatory body.
Pakistan’s ministry of foreign affairs said it “strongly condemns” Rajnath Singh’s remarks. “These irresponsible remarks reveal his profound insecurity and frustration regarding Pakistan’s effective defence and deterrence against Indian aggression through conventional means. Pakistan’s conventional capabilities are adequate to deter India, without the self-imposed ‘nuclear blackmail’ that New Delhi suffers,” the ministry’s statement read.
Rajnath Singh urged IAEA to consider Pak’s arsenal
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday questioned Pakistan’s credibility as a nuclear-armed state and urged the international body to closely monitor Pakistan’s nuclear program.
“The entire world has witnessed how recklessly Pakistan has threatened India. Today, from the land of Srinagar, I wish to raise the question of whether nuclear weapons are safe in the possession of such a reckless and rogue nation. I think that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal should be taken under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Rajnath Singh stated while speaking to Indian troops at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.

The international nuclear regulatory body informed the news agency ANI that there have been no radiation leaks or discharges from any nuclear facility in Pakistan.
The agency has not responded to Rajnath Singh’s proposal to place Pakistan’s nuclear facilities under the oversight of the international organization.
The International Atomic Energy Agency serves as the world’s primary intergovernmental platform for scientific and technical collaboration in the nuclear sector. It functions for the safe, secure, and peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology, aiding international peace and security while supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
