The police reported that more than 150 individuals sustained injuries, with eight in serious condition, due to a fireworks mishap at a temple festival in Kerala’s Kasaragod on Monday.

The incident occurred at Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple during Kaliyattam festival

The incident took place at around 12.30 am at the Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple during the yearly Kaliyattam festival.

The wounded were transferred to multiple hospitals in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Mangaluru, where they are currently undergoing medical care. Authorities believe the accident happened when a fireworks storage factory close to the temple ignited.

Shortly after the information about the accident was released, a number of senior officials from the district administration, such as the collector and the district police chief, reached the scene.

Investigation underway to find possible reasons for the accident

Authorities are conducting an investigation to find out what led to the fire, as local communities gathered to support the injured and their families.

Earlier this week, an FIR was filed by the Kerala Police regarding the alleged disturbance of the famous Thrissur Pooram festival in April. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the Opposition of spreading exaggerated campaigns against the event.

The FIR, filed without naming the accused, lists charges that include criminal conspiracy, outraging religious sentiments, and incitement to riot.

The FIR outlines an alleged plot aimed at provoking unrest by inflaming religious beliefs.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
