Confrontation breaks out between BJP and Opposition during Waqf bill parliamentary committee meeting

A confrontation occurred between members of the ruling BJP and the Opposition during a parliamentary committee meeting on Tuesday that was discussing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The BJP MPs were accused by the opposition of using inappropriate language against them, causing them to walk out of the meeting for the second day in a row.

A fight broke out after a intense argument among BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, Dilip Saikia, Abhijit Ganguly, Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee, and Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi regarding the suggestion to involve women in Waqf boards.

The Opposition claimed that the committee’s chairperson, Jagdambika Pal, was not following the rules and did not act against the BJP MPs. However, the BJP MPs claimed that the chairperson was being verbally abused by the Opposition members.

The Opposition staged a walkout after Anwar Manippady accused Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge of being involved in Waqf land scams

The Opposition walked out on Monday when Anwar Manippady, ex-chair of the Karnataka State Minorities Commission, claimed Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress president, was part of Waqf land scandals. Manippady was one of the individuals called to provide testimony on the legislation.

Referring to regulations, Opposition members of parliament argued that it is not permissible to bring forward “unproven allegations” against “high dignitaries” during panel sessions. They alleged that the chair of the committee disregarded their protests and permitted the deposition to proceed.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
