Rinku Singh’s life journey
Rinku Singh connected his absence from the Duleep Trophy to his lackluster batting display for Uttar Pradesh in the previous Ranji Trophy season.
A middle-order batsman and superb fielder, Rinku Singh amazed everyone by hitting Yash Dayal for five straight sixes while Kolkata Knight Riders required 28 runs from five balls against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023.
Rinku’s tale is one of rising from poverty to wealth. At one moment, when the family was in debt, he nearly accepted the position as a house servant. His luck shifted when KKR acquired him for INR 80 lakh during the IPL 2018 auction. Nonetheless, it wasn’t until IPL 2022 that he delivered a significant innings. In the next season, he topped the run charts for KKR, amassing 474 runs at a strike rate of 149.52.
Rinku Singh is the only batsman to hit five sixes in the final over of an IPL chase, or any T20 chase (where ball-by-ball records exist), securing a victory for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a match that appeared out of reach against Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2023.
All in all, the FuTuRe looks bright for RIinku. It will important to see whether lives up the expectations.
