An official announced that the Odisha government will be assessing the quality of ghee utilized for creating offerings at the Jagannath temple in Puri.

The decision was made after the controversy about animal fat being used in the ghee used to make the laddus offered at the Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh.
Puri’s District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain mentioned that while there have been no accusations so far, the authorities will analyze the quality of ghee utilized in making ‘Kotha Bhoga’ and ‘Baradi Bhoga’ at the ancient temple.

He mentioned that Omfed, a state-controlled organization, is the exclusive provider of ghee for the Puri temple.

“However, a decision has been taken to examine the standard of ghee being supplied by Omfed to allay any fear of adulteration,” he said, mentioning that talks will be conducted with Omfed and the temple’s servitors responsible for preparing the ‘prasad’.
Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, a servitor, stated that they have discovered previously tainted ghee being utilized to light lamps on the temple grounds.
The laddus at the Tirupati temple gained national attention when Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that inferior ingredients and animal fats were used during the YSRCP government’s term.
