IMD issues heatwave warning for Delhi, Haryana & Punjab
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a severe heatwave in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana over the next five days, with no relief from the unrelenting high heat that has scorched several regions of the country. On Monday, the temperature in Delhi is forecast to reach 44 degrees Celsius, a day after the city achieved the season’s high of 44.4 degrees.
According to today’s IMD report, extreme heatwave conditions will also continue in sections of Rajasthan from Tuesday to Friday, as well as in some regions of Uttar Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to hit sections of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh this week.
This week, the mercury is anticipated to reach 45 degrees Celsius in Delhi on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.

No respite from heat in coming days
According to IMD, Residents awoke to a warm morning with the minimum temperature in Delhi on Monday morning at 29.2 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above the season’s average.
At least eight locations in India had temperatures approach or above 47 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The Najafgarh neighborhood of Delhi recorded 47.8 degrees, making it the country’s warmest spot for the second time in the previous three days.
Sriganganagar and Anta in Rajasthan reported the maximum temperature of 46.7 degrees Celsius, while Nuh in Haryana had the warmest temperature of 47.2 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana, reached a high of 44.2 degrees Celsius.
Faridkot had the highest temperature in Punjab, at 44 degrees Celsius, with Amritsar coming in second at 43.9 degrees.
Datia in Madhya Pradesh registered 47.5 degrees, while Agra and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh reported 47.7 and 47.2 degrees, respectively.
Following the intense heat, the IMD has voiced worries and advised residents in heatwave-affected areas to stay indoors, dress in light-colored cotton clothing, and protect their heads with hats and umbrellas.

IMD predicts rainfall in South India
Meanwhile, the weather service has forecast heavy rain in parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry this week.
It also projected severe rain in parts of Lakshadweep on Monday and Tuesday, as well as light to moderate rain in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the following seven days.
