Kolkata is now heavily secured in preparation for a ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest march by Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj, a new student group, to the state secretariat. They are demanding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee‘s resignation due to the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case.

Over 6,000 Kolkata policemen deployed ahead of ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest

Over 6,000 Kolkata Police officers are now stationed in the city, with increased security measures implemented around Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence.

Ahead of the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ march, Kolkata Police disclosed the apprehension of four students suspected of planning violence and being part of a plot involving murder and attempted murder. Previously, Suvendu Adhikari from the BJP stated that the disappearance of the 4 student activists occurred after midnight.

Drones and robocops used to monitor movements of the demonstrators

Drones and robotic police officers are being utilized to watch over the activities of the demonstrators. Water cannons and tear gas shells are prepared as well. VAJRA vehicles for anti-riot situations are ready and waiting.

The West Bengal Police has said the protest march was “illegal” and they did not receive any request for permission for holding a march towards Nabanna.

March called by Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj

The protest is organized by an unregistered student organization named Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj. The group is calling for justice for the 31-year-old medical intern, the culprit to receive the death penalty, and for Mamata Banerjee to step down from her position.

Doctors and Left student groups who have been protesting against the incident since August 10 have now separated themselves from the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest march.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
