A remote village, Badhal, located in the Rajouri district of Jammu & Kashmir, has been shaken by 17 fatalities from a mysterious illness. The precise reason for the fatalities is still under investigation.
The mysterious illness that emerged on December 7 of the previous year continues to pose a significant challenge for the authorities.
On December 7, there were five reported fatalities in Badhaal village for unidentified causes. The family that has suffered the most is Mohammad Aslam, who has lost 8 relatives, including his parents and all 6 of his children.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Home Affairs formed an 11-member Inter-Ministerial group to investigate the fatalities. As the high-level team arrived in Rajouri district on Sunday (January 19), the death toll increased to 17 after a young girl named Yasmeen died from the illness at SMGS Hospital).

The victim had been fighting for her life for the past few days and was placed on ventilator assistance in the hospital. Nonetheless, she died on Sunday evening.
In the meantime, the specialized team engaged in talks with senior officials in Rajouri, during which the officials updated the team on the situation. On Monday, the team visited the impacted village to assess the situation.
The enigmatic fatalities are likewise under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the J&K police. The SIT is probing the criminal conspiracy dimension of the case by interrogating the suspects and examining their mobile devices. However, there has been no significant progress in the investigation up to this point.
