After evading arrest for sixteen years, a 45-year-old man from Bihar, sought for the electrocution death of a two-year-old boy in Noida’s Sector 66, was apprehended on Monday, said senior police officials, adding that his arrest was aided by local rivals.
The individual suspected has been recognized as Sanjay, known by a single name, and comes from Bokaro Khud village in Champaran, Bihar. He worked as an electrician but is now employed by a construction firm close to his village in Bihar, according to police.
“On July 10, 2009, Sanjay reportedly electrocuted a two-year-old boy in the Mamura region of Sector 66 and also violently threw him to the ground,” stated Sumit Shukla, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), Noida.
Following a complaint from the boy’s father, a case was filed under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector 58 police station. “The boy’s father had claimed that Sanjay, who lived nearby and worked as an electrician, was having an affair with his wife and often came to their house. When he objected and cautioned Sanjay to keep away from his family, Sanjay murdered his young son and fled,” stated Shukla.

Since that time, Sanjay had been on the run, and the police declared a reward of ₹1,000 for any information that helps in his apprehension. As time went on and it became more difficult to locate him, the reward was raised to ₹25,000, according to the police.
“Over the last 16 years, different station house officers (SHOs) assigned to the Sector 58 police station dispatched several teams to his hometown in Champaran. However, he always found out about the team coming to his village in advance and would sneak off to Nepal, located about 15-20km from his house. He would toil as a daily laborer for a year or two in Nepal,” stated an official linked to the investigation, wishing to remain anonymous.
“Subsequently, the police had him declared a proclaimed offender and sealed his house. Ultimately, we chose to pursue an alternative approach; we identified his opponents close to his hometown and through them, we attempted to locate him,” stated the officer.
