Five-story building collapses in Gujarat’s Surat; 10-15 trapped
A five-story building collapsed in Gujarat’s Surat on Saturday, leaving several people thought trapped beneath the rubble, according to officials. The event occurred in Surat’s Sachin GIDC area. Police and fire department crews have arrived to the scene, and rescue efforts are ongoing.
The building that collapsed unexpectedly was occupied by a family of tenants.
Currently, police and firefighters are working to clear the rubble at the location. A woman has been successfully rescued from the rubble.

According to preliminary reports, the old building, constructed in 2017, collapsed in Pali village, Sachin GIDC area. The building’s occupants, estimated at 10 to 15, are believed to be trapped.
Rescue operations underway; no one found as yet
Several senior police officers and leaders, including Deputy Mayor Narendra Patil, have arrived at the scene to watch the rescue operations.
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot stated that the building contained 30 flats and housed five to six families.
“Five minutes after the building collapsed, the police were called. Senior officials and a rescue crew arrived at the spot. It was a thirty-flat scheme. There were 5–6 families living there. The fire department personnel rescued a woman from the debris. “A watchman reported that many people were inside the building when it collapsed,” Gehlot said.
Gehlot, who arrived on the spot to monitor the rescue operation, confirmed that trapped people’s voices could be heard at the start of the rescue operations.
“When rescue operations began, we heard the voices of those trapped within. We rescued a woman alive from the rubble and transported her to the hospital. We believe that roughly five people are still stuck inside,” he stated.
“The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team is on its way. Action will be taken against anyone found to be negligent during the investigation,” he added.
