On Sunday, the body of a boy was discovered from a three-storey building that fell in Mohali, Punjab, raising the death count to two, as rescue teams persisted in their extensive search for any survivors still caught beneath the debris. The individual was recognized as Abhishek, originally from Ambala in Haryana.

“The remains of a boy named Abhishek have been found.” Two levels of the structure have been cleared, and work is ongoing on the remaining floors. “According to news agency ANI, a total of two bodies have been retrieved so far,” stated Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek.

On Saturday, Drishti Verma, a 20-year-old female from Theog in Himachal Pradesh, was found in the wreckage in serious condition and taken to Sohana Hospital, but unfortunately died from her injuries.

The structure fell down as excavation activities were taking place in the basement of the neighboring building. Authorities stated that a gym was functioning on all three levels of the structure that fell, and seven to eight individuals might be trapped beneath the rubble.

Police stated that a case was filed against the building owners, Parwinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with the Army, police, and district administration, are present at the location and conducting rescue and relief efforts at the accident scene. Medical teams were likewise placed on standby.

The Army announced that numerous debris removal machines and earthmovers were sent to the location. It stated that the upper section of the debris was cleared and attempts were being made to access the basement.

“The Indian Army reacted swiftly to the rescue. In a remarkable display of coordinated efforts, Indian Army columns along with NDRF and state rescue teams have been relentlessly working to address the crisis. Engineer Task Force with debris clearance machines and JCBs are operational at the site. Top debris is removed and efforts are being made to reach the basement,” Army’s Western Command tweeted.

Multiple excavators were utilized during the rescue operation.

DSP Harsimran Singh Bal said, “The clearance operations are ongoing. We registered an FIR under Section 105 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (culpable homicide that does not qualify as murder) against the owners of the building. They are currently on the run.”

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army, police, and district administration are present at the location and are conducting rescue and relief efforts at the accident site. Medical teams were additionally placed on standby.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann conveyed his sadness regarding the event.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
