Modi Targets Congress Over Infiltrators, Backs SIR in Assam

Addressing a rally in Guwahati, Modi alleged that Congress-era policies weakened Assam’s security and identity, while the BJP government is now correcting those mistakes.

PM Modi said violence flourished in the Northeast under Congress rule but claimed the region has seen major improvements over the past decade, with former conflict zones turning into aspirational districts.

December 20, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the Congress of shielding “infiltrators” for decades and said the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was aimed at protecting the integrity of India’s democratic process.

Speaking at a rally in Guwahati, the Prime Minister said strict measures were being taken to prevent illegal infiltration, even as some forces were attempting to obstruct these efforts. “There are deshdrohis who are trying to protect infiltrators, but the Centre is determined to stop this,” Modi said.

Launching a sharp attack on the Opposition, Modi said the BJP-led government was correcting the Congress’ “historic neglect” of Assam and the Northeast. “The Congress committed a grave mistake by keeping this region away from development for decades. The country paid a heavy price for that in terms of unity, security, and integrity,” he said.

He added that prolonged Congress rule had allowed violence to flourish across the region. “For decades, violence dominated the Northeast. In the last 10–11 years, we have moved steadily towards ending that phase. Areas once known for unrest are today emerging as aspirational districts,” the Prime Minister said.

The Central Government has also taken strict steps to stop infiltration.

Along with deporting illegal infiltrators, their identification is also being carried out.

However, Congress has taken to anti-national agendas and opposing this.

Modi further accused the Congress of protecting infiltrators who, he alleged, encroached upon forests and land, threatening Assam’s identity and security. “The BJP government is correcting the mistakes that Congress allowed to continue for decades,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new Terminal 2 building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Constructed at a cost of around ₹4,000 crore, the new terminal has an annual passenger handling capacity of about 13.1 million, significantly boosting air connectivity and strengthening Guwahati’s position as the main gateway to the Northeast.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
