New Delhi | October 13, 2025 — A tribal woman from Manipur was found dead in her rented flat in South Delhi’s Munirka area late Sunday night, following what police suspect was a violent domestic altercation with her husband.

The victim, identified as Vincy Nengneithem Khongsai, also known as Thempi Khongsai, was reportedly from Saikul in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, and had been living with her husband, Nongthongbam Pradeep Singh, for the past three years as a beautician.

According to investigators, the couple—belonging to different communities from Manipur, with Khongsai being Kuki and Pradeep Meitei—allegedly had frequent quarrels. On the night of October 12, an argument between them escalated into a violent confrontation around 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Police said the woman suffered multiple injuries in what appears to have been a brutal assault. Her husband, Pradeep, allegedly attempted to take his own life immediately afterward.

The grim scene came to light when the landlady, alerted by the victim’s father, who had received a distress call from his daughter, contacted the police. Responding officers found the door locked from inside. On breaking it open, they discovered both Khongsai and Pradeep lying unconscious and bleeding in the washroom.

Both were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared Thempi dead on arrival. Pradeep, who sustained deep neck injuries, was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital and remains under police custody and medical supervision.

A knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the spot. The crime team and forensic experts have collected evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary findings point to domestic violence as the cause of the tragedy, though police are probing all angles, including the sequence of events and possible provocation leading up to the fatal attack.

Authorities have registered a case and are awaiting forensic and medical reports for further clarity.

However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
