December 16, 2025: At least four people lost their lives and 25 others were injured in a major road accident on the Delhi–Agra (Yamuna) Expressway in Mathura early Tuesday after dense fog led to a massive multi-vehicle pile-up. The collision involved seven buses and three cars, with several vehicles catching fire after impact.

Police said poor visibility due to heavy fog was the primary cause of the accident, which triggered panic among passengers trapped inside the vehicles. Emergency services rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar confirmed the casualties and said rescue operations were nearing completion. “The accident occurred due to dense fog. Seven buses and three small cars collided, and some vehicles caught fire. Four deaths have been confirmed so far, and around 25 people have been injured,” he told reporters.

Fire service teams, local police and district administration officials were deployed in large numbers to manage the situation. More than a dozen fire tenders and over 14 ambulances were pressed into service to douse the flames, rescue passengers and shift the injured to hospitals.

According to officials, the injured were taken to CHC Baldev and the District Hospital in Mathura. “None of the injured are in a critical condition and all are out of danger,” SSP Kumar said, adding that arrangements were being made to transport stranded passengers to their destinations using government vehicles.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh described the incident as “very unfortunate” and said the administration’s immediate priority was relief and medical assistance. “The cause of the accident will be investigated later. Right now, our focus is on ensuring the injured receive proper treatment and clearing the expressway,” he said.

Traffic on the affected stretch of the Yamuna Expressway remained disrupted for several hours as authorities worked to remove damaged vehicles and restore normal movement.

The Mathura accident comes a day after another fog-related pile-up on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, where nearly 20 vehicles were involved in a collision that killed four people and injured several others, highlighting the risks posed by poor visibility during winter mornings.
