April 7, 2026 — At least three persons were killed after security forces opened fire to disperse a violent mob in Moirang in Bishnupur district, as tensions escalated following a deadly bomb attack earlier in the day.

The unrest erupted after angry protesters took to the streets in large numbers, alleging failure of authorities to protect civilians. Demonstrators stormed the Moirang Police Station, torched multiple trucks carrying essential goods, and blocked key roads, bringing normal life to a halt.

The protests were triggered by a tragic early morning attack in nearby Tronglaobi village, where suspected militants allegedly fired a projectile that struck a residential house. The explosion killed two young children—a five-year-old boy and his infant sister—while their mother was seriously injured.

Eyewitnesses said the situation quickly spiralled out of control as crowds gathered, raising slogans and demanding accountability. Security forces initially attempted to control the mob using non-lethal measures, but later resorted to firing after the situation turned violent and personnel came under threat.

Officials confirmed that three civilians died in the firing, though details regarding their identities are yet to be released. Several others were reportedly injured during the clashes.

Protesters expressed anger and fear over the recurring violence in the region, questioning how long residents would continue to live under constant threat, particularly in vulnerable areas along the hill-valley fringes.

The MLA of the Moirang Assembly constituency visited the area and condemned the attack on civilians, while urging restraint. Meanwhile, heavy deployment of security forces has been made to restore order and prevent further escalation.

Authorities have imposed heightened security measures in and around Moirang, including intensified patrolling and restrictions on large gatherings, to prevent further flare-ups. Senior police and civil officials are closely monitoring the situation, while appeals for calm have been issued to local residents. Officials indicated that efforts are underway to identify those involved in the violence, even as the broader situation in Manipur remains tense and unpredictable.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
