November 21, 2025: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has strongly objected to a complaint submitted to the Governor of Manipur against senior IPS officer Themthing Ngashangva by the office of a Rajya Sabha MP from Manipur. In a statement issued on Friday, the student body termed the move “selective targeting” of a Naga officer who was performing his duties during an “extremely challenging and volatile situation.”
According to ANSAM, the complaint—submitted via Memo No. MP (R/S)-427 dated November 20—amounts to an unjust attack on a respected police officer who was carrying out responsibilities assigned by state authorities. The organisation argued that there was no record of misconduct or any exchange of words between the Maharaja of Manipur and the officer, contrary to insinuations being circulated.
ANSAM said it was “deeply disheartening” that a police officer performing lawful duties had been subjected to “personal attack and undue accusation.” The association further criticised the rise of communal and racially charged social media posts triggered by the incident, warning that such content endangered Manipur’s fragile peace.
“Sangai” an endangered species becomes not just a political hotbed between IDPs and the Govt., but also acts as an instinct to polarise & communalise the society.

“The unfolding act is a deliberate insult not only to the officer but to the entire Naga community,” the statement said, adding that the community felt “collectively wounded and aggrieved.”
The student body expressed alarm at what it described as “mischievously sensational” posts on social platforms that appeared designed to weaponise public sentiment and inflame existing tensions. These posts, ANSAM claimed, were “crafted not to illuminate truth, but to fracture communities and instigate hostility” at a time when Manipur required calm and collective maturity.

Calling for immediate intervention, ANSAM urged the Maharaja to withdraw the complaint to prevent further escalation. While acknowledging that any individual may approach authorities with genuine grievances, it cautioned against “targeting an officer from another community to meet their ends.”
The statement concluded by reaffirming ANSAM’s commitment to defending the rights of individuals and opposing all acts of defamation and communal provocation.
