Imphal, June 16, 2025 — Ina gesture that cuts across ethnic divide in the state, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has issued an emotional appeal to the people , calling for solidarity and cooperation in receiving the mortal remains of two daughters of the state — Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma of Thoubal and Namlunthem Singson of Old Lambulane, Imphal — who perished in the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 on June 12.
The ill-fated Boeing 787, en route to London Gatwick, crashed minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad, claiming 241 lives. The deaths of the two young women, described by COCOMI as “graceful daughters of Manipur,” have plunged the state into collective mourning.

COCOMI has urged civil society organisations, local clubs, and the general public to offer full support and cooperation when the remains arrive at Imphal Airport. The organisation further appealed to the State Government and relevant authorities to ensure all logistical preparations for a dignified handover to the families.
“If willing, the families may come forward without hesitation to receive their daughters,” said Laikhuram Jayenta, Convenor of COCOMI’s IPR Sub-committee. “COCOMI stands ready to assist in any capacity during this difficult moment.”
The organisation closed its statement with a heartfelt reflection: “May the land of Manipur welcome back her daughters with love and pride. And if life grants them another chance, may they return as the shining daughters of our soil.”
