The Aam Aadmi Party suffered a significant blow in Delhi as 13 councillors left the party and declared the establishment of an independent party. The insurgent chiefs feature Mukesh Goel, who served as the House Leader for AAP in the MCD.
The councillors, led by Goel, announed a new party named Indraprastha Vikas Party on Saturday. In the Delhi Assembly elections that took place in February this year, Goel ran on an AAP ticket from Adarsh Nagar but was defeated.
Prior to the recently concluded municipal elections, these leaders switched from Congress to the Aam Aadmi Party. Goel, a municipal councillor for 25 years, switched from Congress to the AAP in 2021.

BJP had won the MCD elections recently
The announcement arrives shortly after the BJP regained control of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD after its victory in the civic polls. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chose to boycott the election.
The recent setback for the party in Delhi follows its defeat by the BJP in the Assembly elections earlier this year. Since then, the AAP has faced ongoing internal conflict.
AAP implemented an organizational overhaul in March to quell the unrest within the party designating former minister Saurabh Bharadwaj as the new head of its Delhi unit. Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was assigned responsibility for Punjab, which is set to hold elections in two years.
Gopal Rai has been appointed as AAP’s in-charge for Gujarat, whereas AAP’s national general secretary Sandeep Pathak has taken on the role of special in-charge for Chhattisgarh.
