Voting for Phase 1 begins in Tamil Nadu
On 102 seats distributed across 21 states and Union Territories, voting has started for the first round of the Lok Sabha elections. On X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to cast “record numbers” of ballots. “I especially urge young people who are voting for the first time to cast a lot of ballots. Every voice matters and every vote matters, after all,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Preparations for the 18th Lok Sabha elections 2024 have begin in the whole country. Lok Sabha elections dates were announced on 16 March 2024. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with newly appointed Election Commission Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sindhu announced the election dates.
The opposition is running for office under the banner coalition INDIA in the hopes of changing their luck, while the BJP-led National Democratic coalition (NDA) is hoping to serve a third consecutive term under Prime Minister Modi.

39 seats of Tamil Nadu
The 39 seats in Tamil Nadu where voting will take place include Tiruvallur, Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram, Arakkonam, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Arani, Vilupuram, Kalakuruchi, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tirupur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Dindigul, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari.
Other states also to go on elections
Today voting is taking place on 102 Lok Sabha seats in 21 states. Voting is going on on all 39 seats of Tamil Nadu. Voting is taking place on five Lok Sabha seats of Maharashtra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the voters to vote. The PM has said that every voice is important in democracy. He said that the celebration of democracy is starting from today. Young voters should actively participate in this.

More than 16.63 crore individuals can vote in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. This comprises 11,371 voters from the third gender, 3.51 crore young voters in the 20–29 age range, and 35.67 lakh voters who are first-time voters.

Nitin Gadkari, Sarbananda Sonowal, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, Sanjeev Baliyan, Jitendra Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, L Murugan, and Nisith Pramanik are the seven Union Ministers running in the first phase of the election.
