The Indian Embassy in Tehran has urged nationals to avoid protest areas, stay vigilant, and remain in constant contact with officials. The warning follows widespread protests across Iran, with reports of more than 2,500 deaths and fears of possible US military action.

NEW DELHI, January 14, 2026:  India on Wednesday issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals currently in Iran to leave the country at the earliest, citing a rapidly evolving security situation amid escalating regional tensions and widespread protests.

The advisory was released by the Indian Embassy in Tehran, which said the warning was in continuation of an earlier notice issued on January 5, 2025.

“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals presently in the country—including students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists—are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” the embassy said.

The renewed warning comes against the backdrop of heightened regional instability, including concerns over a possible US military action against Iran and ongoing protests in several parts of the country. Reports suggest that more than 2,500 people have died since the unrest began.

Indian authorities have advised citizens to remain vigilant and avoid areas witnessing demonstrations or violence. The embassy reiterated that all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) should exercise caution, stay in regular contact with the mission, and closely monitor local media for updates.

Indian nationals have also been asked to keep their passports, visas, and identity documents readily accessible and to contact the embassy immediately if assistance is required.

To facilitate support, the embassy has activated emergency helplines, shared multiple contact numbers, and provided an official email address for consular assistance. Indians who have not yet registered with the embassy have been urged to do so through the Ministry of External Affairs’ online portal. Families in India have also been requested to complete the registration on behalf of relatives in Iran if internet access there is disrupted.

The protests in Iran, now entering their third week, were triggered by worsening economic conditions and a sharp rise in the cost of living after the national currency hit a record low of 1.4 million rials to the US dollar. Years of international sanctions have left the oil-rich nation’s economy fragile.

The ongoing unrest is being described as the most intense wave of protests Iran has witnessed in over a decade, posing a significant challenge to the country’s theocratic leadership. Meanwhile, the United States has warned of possible strikes if Iran does not scale back its crackdown. US President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged protesters to “keep protesting and take over the country’s institutions,” claiming that “help is on the way.”

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
