Sandip Ghosh arrested by CBI

Sandip Ghosh, the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and killed last month, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday.

Officials said Ghosh and three others were apprehended by the central investigative agency for his suspected role in the financial misconduct at RG Kar hospital. Biplav Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan were three additional individuals detained with Ghosh.

The CBI has charged criminal conspiracy, cheating, and dishonesty, as well as Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, in relation to the financial misconduct at RG Kar Medical College. The cases involve recognizable crimes and cannot be granted bail.

The First Information Report was filed following the transfer of the case from Kolkata Police’s Special Investigation Team to the central probe agency as per the Calcutta High Court’s orders.

Ghosh resigned from his position as principal after the shocking rape-murder incident

From February 2021 to September 2023, Ghosh was the principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Even though he was moved in October 2023, he surprisingly came back to his position at the hospital in just a month.

He persisted in his position until the day when the intern doctor was savagely raped and killed in a conference room at the hospital. The discovery of her partially naked body on August 9 led to widespread protests and a spate of violence in West Bengal.

Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer working with the Kolkata Police, was taken into custody in relation to the heinous crime of rape and murder.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
