On Saturday, the Kolkata Police took into custody a security guard from South Kolkata Law College linked to the gang-rape of a first-year law student on campus. This marks the fourth arrest in the case, following the previous detentions of three people, including the main suspect — a leader from the Trinamool Congress.
Police sources indicate that the initial investigation showed that the security guard, Pinaki Banerjee, was on duty during the gang-rape. Following the accused’s orders, he exited his guard room, abandoning the victim by themselves. Police reported that the guard did not help her, despite her numerous requests for assistance.
Sources indicated that he was obligated to inform college authorities or the police about the incident, yet he failed to do so. His disregard was confirmed during interrogation, after which he was taken into custody.

The survivor claimed that the security guard was instructed to remain outside the room once the college’s main entrance was secured. She also mentioned that the main gate of the college was locked at the time of the incident, and despite the presence of the security guard, he did not take action.
What Medical Exam Revealed?
The medical examination validated the survivor’s claims, showing signs of forceful penetration, bite marks, and scratches from nails on her body, as reported by the police.

“The evidence supported the victim’s claim in her report submitted to the Kasba Police Station. There are signs of violent penetration, bite marks, and scratch marks from nails on her body,” a police official informed PTI
The woman reportedly faced an assault after turning down a marriage proposal from the primary suspect, who filmed the incident and subsequently used the footage to extort and intimidate her. As stated in her complaint, the student was assaulted upon arriving at the campus to submit a form for the exam and was forcibly taken to the guard room, where she was stripped and raped.
