The Kolkata Police on Sunday summoned two prominent doctors and a senior BJP politician for allegedly circulating false information and divulging the identify of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Dr Kunal Sarkar, Dr Subarna Goswami, and BJP leader and former MP Locket Chatterjee have all received notices to appear at the police headquarters in Lalbazar by 3 p.m. today.
The police said that Dr Sarkar and Dr Goswami distributed misleading information about the investigation and post-mortem report for the case. Dr. Subarna Goswami, in particular, apparently gave interviews to media outlets claiming to have access to the post-mortem report, which supposedly revealed startling information such as the presence of 150 mg of semen and a fractured pelvic bone, implying gang rape.

Locket Chatterjee accused of revealing rape victim’s identity
However, the Kolkata Police have categorically denied these allegations, describing them as untrue and dangerous gossip.
In addition to the doctors, BJP leader Locket Chatterjee has been summoned for allegedly exposing the rape victim’s identify, which is a significant violation of Indian law. According to sources in the police department, this announcement, combined with the circulation of misinformation, has hindered the ongoing investigation.
Two separate cases have been registered by the Kolkata Police — one for the dissemination of misleading information and another for the unlawful disclosure of the victim’s identity.
