Junior doctors will resume essential services in hospitals starting on September 21 after demonstrating against the sexual assault and killing of a medical intern at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. After protesting for 41 days, they decided to call off the strike.
Doctors to hold rally from Swasthya Bhawan to CBI office today
Doctors will march from Swasthya Bhawan to the CBI office at 3 pm today demanding the CBI to speed up the probe into the Kolkata rape-murder case.
“We are cancelling the demonstration here and instead, we will hold a rally to the CBI office today at 3pm. CBI must speed up the investigation of the murder and rape case. We will resume working on Saturday due to a flood, so we can assist those in need. However, there are protest platforms at all of our medical colleges where we will also be present. All essential services will commence on Saturday. All needs classified as essential services will be attended to,” the protesting doctor said.

The progress came after sharing a draft summarizing their talks with the West Bengal government with Chief Secretary Manoj Pant on Thursday. They are currently waiting for the state to respond to their suggestions.
The second round of meetings took place at the state secretariat, Nabanna
The state public healthcare task force, under the leadership of Pant, held a second meeting with a group of 30 junior doctors at the state secretariat, Nabanna. The initial round took place at the Kalighat residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday. The government has agreed to a crucial request from junior doctors for the improvement of infrastructure in state-run hospitals.
