US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris urged on Tuesday for the Israel-Gaza war to stop and stated that Israel should not reoccupy the Palestinian enclave once the year-long conflict ends.
Harris advocated for a truce between Israel and Hamas
Addressing the National Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia, she advocated for a truce between Israel and Hamas, the establishment of two separate states, and ensuring stability in the Middle East without strengthening Iran.
According to the Gaza health ministry, a minimum of 41,252 individuals have died and 95,497 have been injured in the Israeli attack on the Hamas-controlled strip since October 7. The conflict started when Hamas launched an assault on Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 individuals, primarily non-combatants, and the capture of around 250 hostages, as reported by Israeli accounts.

Harris was questioned about Springfield, Ohio, a town that has been the focus of a social media storm recently due to false rumors spread by right-wing activists claiming Haitian immigrants were consuming pets.
Former President Donald Trump, who is running against Harris as a Republican in the upcoming presidential election on Nov. 5, has promised to carry out large-scale deportations of Haitian immigrants from Springfield if he wins, despite most of them having legal status in the United States.
“This is exhausting and it’s harmful and it’s hateful and grounded in some age-old stuff that we should not have the tolerance for,” Harris said.

Kamala Harris proposes to boost housing supply if elected
The interview, lasting 45 minutes, kicked off with discussions on economic matters. Harris stated that should she become president, she would collaborate with private investors to increase housing supply, recognizing that further efforts were required to decrease prices for American citizens.
“One of the big issues that affects people right now in terms of the economy and their economic wellbeing is we have a shortage of housing supply,” Harris said. “It’s too expensive.”

Harris restated the proposal to increase the child tax credit to $6,000. She reiterated a promise that American families wouldn’t spend more than 7% of their earnings on childcare costs.
The interview was arranged because Harris missed the group’s convention in Chicago in July and Trump raised doubts about her Black identity in an interview.
