During the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ (consecration) ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, an 85-year-old woman from Jharkhand broke her 30-year-old’maun vrat’ (vow of silence) after 30 years.
In a video, the first words of Saraswati Devi, an unwavering devotee of Lord Ram, which she uttered as she broke her vow of silence were ‘Jai Shri Ram’. As she uttered ‘Jai Shri Ram’, she became overwhelmed and emotional.
Often referred to as “mauni mata” (silent mother), the 80-year-old has been mute since the early 1990s. She has expressed her love and devotion to Lord Ram and her strong desire for the Ram Temple to be built in Ayodhya.
Residents of Karmatand village in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, Saraswati Devi took a break from’maun vrat’ and spoke for one hour at noon, daily, until 2020. However, on the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ram Temple in 2020, she became utterly silent.
