The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but vital global shipping corridor through which nearly 20% of the world’s crude oil passes, has been effectively blockaded by Tehran in recent days, raising alarm across global energy markets and prompting fears of wider economic disruption.
In a strongly worded post on his Truth Social platform, Trump warned that Iran could face unprecedented strikes targeting critical infrastructure. “Tuesday will be ‘Power Plant Day’ and ‘Bridge Day’ in Iran—unlike anything seen before. Open the Strait, or face severe consequences,” he wrote, in remarks marked by unusually harsh rhetoric.

Speaking later, the US president also highlighted what he described as one of the most complex combat search-and-rescue operations in recent military history, referring to the recovery of two crew members from a downed F-15 fighter jet during operations deep inside Iranian territory. He said such missions are rarely attempted due to the risks involved, noting that large-scale deployments are often required to extract even a single soldier from hostile areas.
Calling the operation “historic,” Trump said it would “go down in the books,” crediting US forces and allied support for the success of the mission. The aircraft had gone down during Operation Epic Fury while operating deep inside Iran, he added.
In a further escalation, Trump warned that the United States retains the capability to launch overwhelming military action if tensions continue to rise. “The entire country can be taken out in one night—and that night might be tomorrow,” he said, underscoring the growing volatility in the region as diplomatic efforts remain stalled.
