RCB vs CSK: A virtual knockout
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Chennai Super Kings today in a virtual knockout match in the IPL 2024. To advance to the playoffs, RCB must win this game by a significant margin.
CSK, on the other hand, can progress even if they lose, though not by a big margin at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB must not only outsmart CSK, but also hope that the weather does not damage their chances, as rain is expected during the encounter.
Three teams have secured playoff positions in the IPL 2024: the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Rajasthan Royals, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. And now it will be a fight between RCB and CSK to secure the fourth spot.
One could argue that the Chennai Super Kings are favourites entering into what could be the most important match of IPL 2024 thus far. However, Royal Challengers Bengaluru do have a chance, but it is not easy.

Let us have a look at all the scenarios that could well determine the fourth qualifier:
How both teams stand in the Points Table?
CSK is currently ranked fourth in the points table, having 14 points from 13 matches. They have a net run rate of 0.528.
RCB are ranked seventh with 12 points from 13 games and a net run-rate of 0.387.
Scenarios for RCB to qualify
If RCB chooses to bat first and scores 200 runs in total, to surpass their opponent’s NRR, they will then need to restrict CSK to 182 runs in order to win by 18 runs.

If RCB bats second, they will need to chase down a target of, say, 200 runs, to surpass CSK in terms of net run rate, they will need to do so with at least 11 balls remaining.
Scenarios for CSK to qualify
Unlike their RCB, the five-time champs’ equation is straightforward. With a victory, they will increase their points tally to 16 and move up to third place.
However, what if CSK loses? In that scenario, they must ensure that they don’t lose by more than 17 runs.
If the match gets washed out?
If rain interferes, each team will receive one point. CSK will advance with 15 points, compared to RCB’s 13.
