According to sources, India’s defence budget is expected to receive an increase in funding, focusing on acquiring weaponry and ammunition, along with technology, after Operation Sindoor. A suggestion has been put forward for an extra allocation of Rs 50,000 crore via a supplementary budget. It could gain approval in the Winter session of Parliament.

The additional allocation is expected to address the needs of the armed forces, crucial purchases, and research and development activities.

6.81 lakh crore allocated to Defence Budget this year

This year, a historic Rs 6.81 lakh crore was set aside in the Union Budget for defense, reflecting a 9.53% rise from the last financial year.

Since the NDA administration took office, the defence budget has nearly tripled in the last decade.

In 2014-15, the budget for defense was Rs 2.29 lakh crore. This year, Rs 6.81 lakh crore has been loocated, accounting for 13.45% of the overall budget.

Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s superior defense capabilities over Pakistan by destroying nine terrorist camps deep within Pakistan without crossing the border.

Defence system successfully intercepted Pak’s missiles and drones during Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor highlighted the Indian military’s powerful collaboration – tactical intelligence combined with sophisticated air defence systems akin to Israel’s renowned ‘Iron Dome’. The focus has similarly been on indigenous components within that network, such as the Akash missile defense system.

During the recent conflict with Pakistan, India’s comprehensive air defense system, which incorporates its own technology, successfully intercepted nearly all incoming missiles and drones.

In addition to the long-range Russian S-400 ‘Triumf’ system, India has deployed the Barak-8 medium-range SAM system and the locally developed Akash system to counter Pakistani drones and missiles. Proven air defence systems such as the Pechora, OSA-AK, and LLAD guns (low-level air defense artillery) were also deployed.

In his speech on May 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the success of Operation Sindoor, which showcased India’s advanced weaponry capabilities.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
