October 4: In a tragic incident, an Indian student from Hyderabad was shot dead while working at a gas station in Texas, United States, late on Friday night.
The victim, Chandrashekar Pole, a native of LB Nagar in Hyderabad and a student at the University of North Texas, was killed by unidentified gunmen in Dallas. According to preliminary information, Pole was working part-time at a gas filling station in Delton when he was fired upon. Local media reports suggest the assailant was of African-American origin.
Pole had moved to the US in 2023 after completing his bachelor’s in dental surgery in Hyderabad. He had finished his master’s degree six months ago and was actively seeking a full-time position while supporting himself through part-time work.
His family has urged the Indian government to intervene and ensure that his mortal remains are brought back home swiftly.

Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLA Sudhir Reddy and former Telangana minister T. Harish Rao visited the bereaved family in LB Nagar on Saturday. Offering condolences, Harish Rao said, “It is deeply tragic that Chandra Shekar, a bright Dalit student who went abroad with dreams of success, lost his life to such senseless violence. We demand that the Telangana government coordinate with the Centre to bring back his body at the earliest.”
The leaders expressed grief over the “heart-wrenching” situation of the parents, who had pinned high hopes on their son’s future.
This incident follows a similar tragedy earlier in September when another Telangana native, Mohammed Nizamuddin, 30, was shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, after an alleged scuffle with his roommate. In that case too, the family sought help from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to repatriate the body.
The Ministry of External Affairs has said it is in touch with US authorities and is extending assistance to Pole’s family in Hyderabad.
