An anti-tank missile fired from Lebanon struck an orchard close to Margaliot, a town on Israel’s northern border, killing one Indian national and injuring two others on Monday. All three of the Indians were from Kerala.
Pat Nibin Maxwell, a 31-year-old resident of Kollam, Kerala, was identified as the victim. According to reports, Maxwell had only been in Israel for two months when the attack occurred. He was employed on a farm.
Pat is survived by a five-year-old daughter and his wife, who is expecting another child.
Bush Joseph George and Paul Melvin were identified as the two injured Indians.
According to Zaki Heller, a spokesman for rescue services Magen David Adom (MDA), the missile struck a plantation in Margaliot, a moshav (communal agricultural community) in the Galilee region of northern Israel, on Monday at approximately 11:00 a.m.
“George was taken to the Beilinson hospital in Petah Tikva after suffering injuries on face and body. He underwent an operation, is recovering well, and has been kept under observation. He could speak with his family in India,” said the sources.
The victim’s father, Pathrose Maxwell, commented on the incident and said that at about 3:30 p.m., he received a call from his daughter-in-law telling him that his son had been in an accident. He learned of his son’s passing later, at almost 12.30 am.
