Pant scored 74 runs off 112 balls for India during the first innings and partnered with KL Rahul (98 not out) to contribute 141 runs for the fourth wicket and was dismissed by a direct throw from Ben Stokes on the third delivery of the 66th over as he attempted a single to bring Rahul back on strike, hoping he could finish his century at Lord’s before the lunch interval.
Another Superb Knock from Rishabh Pant
During his knock of 74, Pant struck eight fours and two sixes. He broke numerous records during his fantastic knock which brought Team India back into the match.
He now boasts 88 sixes in the five-day format, which allowed him to match Rohit Sharma’s tally of 88 maximums. Currently, only Virender Sehwag (91) has hit more sixes than Pant among Indians in Test matches.

Rishabh Pant made history by surpassing the legendary West Indies batsman and former captain Viv Richards’ record of hitting 34 sixes in Test matches against England. In his 17-year Test career, Richards faced England in 36 Tests and hit 34 sixes, while Pant, in his 15th Test against England this week at Lord’s, has already amassed 36 sixes.
The fifty scored during the first innings of the Lord’s Test allowed Pant to reach the 50-run milestone in England for the eighth time in 22 Test innings, matching MS Dhoni’s record.
KL Rahul’s Composed 98*
Rahul executed a few drives and flicks, but the highlight was his backfoot punch square of the wicket against Brydon Carse, while Pant also reached his half-century with a hooked six over deep fine leg off Stokes.
