CSK CEO responds to reports of Fleming being approached as Head Coach of Team India
Over the past few days, there have been growing rumors regarding former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming is a former New Zealand cricketer who is considered one of the greatest captains in the history of the sport. He played as a left-handed batsman and occasional left-arm medium pacer and represented New Zealand in all three formats of the game.
Fleming’s name has naturally surfaced as one of the leading candidates for the prestigious position given his illustrious tenure as head coach of Chennai Super Kings, where he guided the team to a joint-record five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles.
According to a report in The Indian Express, Fleming’s outstanding man-management abilities and impressive coaching background have led the BCCI to consider him as a promising candidate. But in the midst of all of these circulating rumors, CSK quickly responded and denied all of these claims.

The CEO of CSK, Kasi Viswanathan, quashed the rumors, saying there has been no communication between Fleming and the franchise about the Indian head coach position. “I have not heard anything like this. There has been no communication from Stephen Fleming to CSK either,” remarked Viswanathan, ending the speculations for the time being.
Fleming’s achievements meet the Coaching criteria set by BCCI
The requirements outlined by the BCCI for the head coach role are ideal for Stephen Fleming.
A substantial cricketing background is required, with a minimum of 30 Test matches or 50 ODIs played, or notable coaching experiences at different levels of the game. Fleming’s prolonged coaching career with CSK, combined with his substantial international cricket experience, surely meets these criteria.

“Should have played minimum of 30 Test Matches or 50 ODI’s; or Head Coach of a full member Test Playing Nation, for a minimum period of 2 years; or Head Coach of an Associate member/IPL Team or Equivalent International League/First Class Teams/ National A teams, for a minimum period of 3 years; or Should have BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent; and Should be below 60 years of age,” says the BCCI’s list of requirements.
Furthermore, the BCCI’s salary plan is considered variable, with the assumption that it will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and knowledge.
Stephen Fleming began his IPL career as a CSK player before retiring to become a coach.
