New Delhi, January 30, 2026:
“Put the call on recording. It will be useful as police evidence. I am killing your sister.”
These chilling words, allegedly spoken by Ankur, moments before he brutally assaulted his pregnant wife Kajal Chaudhary, a Delhi Police SWAT commando, were heard live by her brother over the phone on January 22. Kajal, 27, who was four months pregnant, fought for her life for five days before succumbing to grievous head injuries on January 27, turning a case of attempted murder into one of cold-blooded homicide.
Kajal, a member of the elite Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit posted with the Special Cell of Delhi Police, was attacked inside her residence in Mohan Garden, west Delhi, in what police describe as a brutal domestic assault involving repeated blows with a dumbbell and violent slamming of her head against a door frame.
A Call That Turned Into a Nightmare
Her brother Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, said he was on a phone call when the horrifying episode unfolded.
“He first called me and said, ‘Apni behen ko samjha le’ (Make your sister understand). I tried to calm him and immediately called my sister,” Nikhil told PTI. “She started telling me about the harassment she was facing. While we were talking, he became furious that she was speaking to me and snatched the phone from her.”
“What followed still haunts me,” Nikhil said, his voice trembling. “He told me, ‘Is call ko recording pe rakh, police evidence me kaam aayega. Main maar raha hoon teri behen ko. Police mera kuch nahi kar paayegi’ (Put this call on recording; it will serve as police evidence. I am killing your sister. The police will not be able to do anything). Then I heard her screams — loud, desperate, and full of terror — before the line went dead.”
Barely five minutes later, Nikhil said, he received another call from Ankur. “He said, ‘Yeh mar gayi hai. Hospital aajao’ (She is dead. Come to the hospital). My entire world collapsed in that moment.”
The family rushed to the hospital with police personnel, only to find Kajal lying unconscious, her head and body bearing multiple injuries.
Five Days Between Life and Death
Kajal was initially taken to multiple hospitals in Delhi, but doctors reportedly expressed grave doubts about her survival due to the severity of her injuries. She was later admitted to a hospital in Ghaziabad, where she remained on life support for five agonising days before passing away on January 27.
Doctors confirmed that she had sustained severe head trauma, internal bleeding, and multiple blunt-force injuries, consistent with a violent assault.
The Brutal Assault
According to Delhi Police, Ankur, a clerk with the Ministry of Defence posted in Delhi Cantonment, first smashed Kajal’s head against a door frame, before repeatedly striking her with a dumbbell, causing extensive damage to her skull and brain.
He was arrested within hours of the incident, and a case of attempt to murder was initially registered at Mohan Garden Police Station based on Nikhil’s complaint. Following Kajal’s death, the charges were converted to murder.
A senior police officer said preliminary investigations point to financial stress, frequent domestic disputes, and long-standing marital discord as key factors behind the crime.
Allegations of Prolonged Torture and Dowry Harassment
Kajal’s family has accused Ankur and his relatives of persistent physical abuse, mental torture, and dowry harassment, alleging that the cruelty continued even during her pregnancy.
Her father Rakesh said the family had given a Bullet motorcycle, gold jewellery, and cash at the time of marriage, yet the harassment did not stop.
“They said our son would have got a car if he had married someone else. Later, my daughter even arranged a car, but the torture continued. We were not even allowed to speak to her freely,” he said.
Her mother revealed that nearly ₹20 lakh was spent on the wedding, forcing the family to take loans. “He also took ₹5 lakh from her. My daughter suffered immensely. I want justice. He is a monster,” she said, breaking down.

Nikhil said this was not the first instance of physical abuse. “About five months ago, he slapped her. I went to their house and asked her to return with me. He apologised and swore on his child that he would never repeat it. I told my sister she could come home anytime. Sadly, she chose to give the marriage another chance.”
He also alleged that despite being pregnant, Kajal was forced to do household chores, including cooking, washing clothes, and cleaning utensils.
A Marriage Marked by Turmoil
Kajal and Ankur had known each other since their college days in Panipat, Haryana, and were married on November 23, 2023. However, their relationship soon became strained.
Due to frequent quarrels and tensions at their native home in Ganaur, Haryana, the couple shifted to a rented accommodation in Mohan Garden, west Delhi, in December 2024, hoping for a fresh start. But the disputes reportedly continued unabated.
They have a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who is now in the care of Kajal’s parents. “He doesn’t know what has happened. We will raise him ourselves and tell him the truth only when he is mature enough,” Nikhil said.
Outrage and Calls for Justice
The shocking killing of a serving Delhi Police SWAT commando has triggered widespread outrage, with women’s rights groups, civil society organisations, and fellow police personnel demanding strict punishment for the accused.
Senior police officials have assured the family of a swift and thorough investigation, stating that the case will be pursued with utmost seriousness.
As Kajal’s grieving family struggles to come to terms with their loss, her brother summed up their anguish: “When I saw her in the hospital, I felt that not even an enemy deserves such a death. She was brave, disciplined, and dedicated to her duty. She deserved a life of dignity — not this.”
