Mumbai | January 25, 2026: New CCTV footage has emerged capturing the fatal stabbing of a 33-year-old college teacher inside a crowded Mumbai local train on Saturday evening, shedding fresh light on the sequence of events leading to the brutal killing.
The footage, recorded at Malad railway station, shows a brief altercation on the platform moments before the accused pulls out a knife and repeatedly stabs the victim. Panic ensues as commuters rush out of the train, while the attacker is seen fleeing the scene amid chaos.
Police identified the victim as Alok Kumar Singh (33), a mathematics and statistics lecturer at the Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. Singh was attacked around 6:00 pm while alighting from a Borivali-bound local train on platform number 1.
He was rushed to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Accused Arrested Within 12 Hours
The accused, Omkar Shinde (27), a daily-wage labourer who works as a metal polisher, was arrested within 12 hours from the Kurar area of Mumbai’s western suburbs, police said.
Investigators said CCTV footage from Malad station and other points along the train route played a crucial role in tracking him down. An earlier clip showed a man wearing a white shirt and blue jeans running in panic across a foot overbridge at Malad station shortly after the stabbing—footage that provided investigators with vital leads.
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the incident stemmed from a minor dispute that escalated rapidly. During the argument, Shinde allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Singh multiple times before fleeing.
