Hemant Soren set to take oath as 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand
Hemant Soren, executive president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), will be sworn in as Jharkhand’s 13th Chief Minister on Thursday evening, following Governor CP Radhakrishnan’s invitation to form the government. Soren, the former Chief Minister, was recently released on bail in a land scam case after serving around five months in jail.
“Governor CP Radhakrishnan will administer the oath and office of secrecy to Hemant Soren at 5 pm at Raj Bhavan,” an official said.
The JMM head submitted his claim to form the government on Wednesday after Champai Soren, Jharkhand’s 12th chief minister, resigned on February 2 following Hemant Soren’s detention.

Soren was granted bail by Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case on June 28
Hemant Soren, the son of JMM supremo Shibu Soren, was released from jail on June 28 after the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail in a money laundering case involving an alleged land scam. On Wednesday, the state’s JMM-led alliance unanimously elected him as legislative party leader.
Hemant Soren had resigned as the Chief Minister shortly before his arrest on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate.
Meanwhile, official sources in New Delhi claimed the Enforcement Directorate is poised to file a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the Jharkhand High Court ruling granting bail to Hemant Soren.
In its June 28 ruling, the High Court’s single bench of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay declared that the court’s belief that the petitioner (Soren) is “not guilty” was incorrect, and that the accused does not meet the twin requirements required by section 45 of the PMLA.
