April 6, 2026: Two people were killed and two others remained unaccounted for after an Iranian ballistic missile struck a residential building in Haifa on Sunday, as northern Israel endured near-continuous attacks from both Tehran and its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah.
Rescue teams from the Fire and Rescue Service and the IDF Home Front Command continued combing the rubble for the missing, who are believed to be trapped beneath the debris. Among those still unaccounted for were two elderly residents and a child, according to a Fire and Rescue official on the scene.
Magen David Adom emergency services reported that an 82-year-old man was seriously injured in the strike, while three others sustained minor injuries from the blast and shrapnel. Four additional people were treated for acute anxiety caused by the traumatic event.
The residential building sustained severe structural damage and was at serious risk of collapse after fires broke out. Firefighters faced challenging conditions while searching the unstable structure for survivors.

Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levy said that rescue teams were using all available resources to locate those missing. He noted that the missile warhead may not have detonated on impact, prompting precautionary evacuations of nearby buildings while sappers secured the area.
The Israeli Air Force is investigating why the missile, carrying a conventional warhead, was not intercepted. Defense systems attempted to shoot it down but were unsuccessful.

The attack on Haifa occurred as Hezbollah intensified its rocket and drone strikes on northern Israel. Multiple sirens sounded across the region on Sunday. One drone struck a home in Shomrat, causing damage but no injuries, while a Hezbollah rocket hit the town of Deir al-Asad, lightly injuring six people. Several others in the area were treated for acute anxiety. Most other projectiles were intercepted by Israeli defenses, according to the IDF.
Since joining Iran in its conflict against Israel last month, Hezbollah has fired hundreds of rockets daily, primarily targeting Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. Dozens have crossed into Israel, while approximately 165 rockets have struck United Nations posts in southern Lebanon, including a recent attack on a UNIFIL base in Odaisseh that left three observers wounded, two seriously. UNIFIL has not publicly commented on the origin of the blast.
In recent weeks, three Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeepers have been killed—two in a roadside explosion attributed to Hezbollah by Israel, and one reportedly struck by Israeli tank fire.
The Haifa strike underscores the escalating threats facing northern Israel, with Iranian-backed groups and their allies increasingly targeting civilian areas, critical infrastructure, and international forces in the region.
