New Delhi:
Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 series could feature support for the Qi2 standard of wireless charging, potentially rivaling Apple’s MagSafe technology. According to a report by Android Authority, newly surfaced images show a magnetic wireless charger attached to the back of the Pixel 10, hinting at the presence of internal magnetic coils, a key requirement for Qi2 compliance. The feature is expected to be branded as “Pixelsnap,” drawing comparisons with Apple’s popular MagSafe system.
Pixelsnap Wireless Charging
Earlier reports had suggested that wireless charging with magnetic alignment would be possible only when using compatible cases. However, the latest leaks indicate that the magnetic coils may be built directly into the phone, allowing the Pixel 10 series to work with a broader range of Qi2-compatible accessories.
In addition to the phones themselves, Google is reportedly planning a lineup of accessories under the Pixelsnap name. These may include custom cases and magnetic wireless chargers. One of the leaked images shows a circular wireless charger resembling the Pixel Watch charger but on a larger scale.
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) recently upgraded the Qi2 charging standard from 15W to 25W. Google is expected to adopt the faster 25W version for its Pixel 10 series, bypassing the earlier 15W specification.

Wider Availability Across the Pixel 10 Series
While the magnetic charger is seen only with the standard Pixel 10 model in the leaked image, it is likely that the entire Pixel 10 lineup will support the Pixelsnap feature.

What is Qi and Qi2 Charging?
Qi is a wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium. It relies on electromagnetic induction to transmit power from a charging pad to a compatible device, removing the need for charging cables.
Qi2, introduced in 2023, expands on Apple’s MagSafe concept by adding a magnetic ring for better alignment between the charger and the device. This improves both efficiency and charging stability. The standard was initially capped at 15W but has now been upgraded to 25W charging speeds.
Made by Google Event
Google’s annual Made by Google event is scheduled for August 20. The Pixel 10 series is expected to be unveiled alongside other products such as the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a. The Pixel 10 lineup will likely include the base Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and a foldable model named Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
