Under Construction Since 2018
The journey of transforming Gomtinagar Railway Station into a world-class facility began in 2018. Spanning across a sprawling 42-acre area, the redevelopment project boasts a staggering cost of Rs 350 crore. The station’s makeover aims to align with the city’s future growth trajectory and cater to Lucknow’s burgeoning traffic demands.
Modern Amenities and Design
Architect CP Kukreja is spearheading the design of Gomtinagar Station, while BL Kashyap has been entrusted with the construction. The station will offer many modern amenities, including a food court, retiring rooms, and a Waiting Lounge upon completion. Passenger flow will be streamlined with separate arrival and departure terminals akin to airports, ensuring a seamless travel experience.
Terminal Buildings and Infrastructure
The redeveloped Gomtinagar Station will feature two terminal buildings: a three-storey North Terminal and a two-storey South Terminal. Thirteen escalators and fourteen lifts will facilitate passenger movement within the station. Additionally, a centralized AC shopping complex, ample parking spaces, and an elevated road spanning 460 meters aim to enhance passenger convenience and decongest traffic flow in the vicinity.
Part of PM Modi’s Revamp Plan
Gomtinagar Railway Station’s redevelopment is a pivotal component of PM Modi’s ambitious plan to revamp 508 railway stations across India, with an allocated budget exceeding Rs 24,470 crore. As part of this initiative, termed the ‘Amrit Stations’ project, significant investments are earmarked for upgrading railway infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other states.
