The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps expressed profound grief over the passing of Assault Canine Dog ‘Bajaj’ on July 15, 2025, following a prolonged illness.
A loyal and fearless member of the Corps’ combat team, Bajaj exemplified unwavering courage, strength, and dedication in service to the nation, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of soldiers and the legacy of the Indian Army.
A Trailblazer in Canine Warfare
Bajaj, the first Indian Army assault dog to be integrated with the advanced K9 Surveillance Camera System, was a pioneer in modern counter-terrorism operations.
Deployed in the challenging terrains of the Kashmir Valley, Bajaj played a pivotal role in numerous high-risk missions, often leading from the front to detect threats and protect soldiers’ lives.
His keen instincts and relentless bravery made him an invaluable asset in counter-terrorism operations, where he consistently demonstrated exceptional skill in reconnaissance and threat detection.
“Bajaj was more than a canine; he was a comrade-in-arms, a symbol of loyalty and courage,” said a spokesperson for the Chinar Corps.
“His contributions to our operations saved countless lives and inspired those who served alongside him.”
A Decorated Warrior
Bajaj’s extraordinary service was recognized with some of the highest honors bestowed upon military canines.
In August 2022, he was awarded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Card for his exemplary performance. Earlier, in January 2022, he received the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Commendation Card, and in 2021, he was honored with the prestigious Chinar Medallion. These accolades reflect Bajaj’s critical role in ensuring the safety and success of Indian Army operations in one of the country’s most volatile regions.

A Legacy of Loyalty and Sacrifice
Bajaj’s integration with the K9 Surveillance Camera System marked a significant advancement in the Indian Army’s canine operations.
