In a shocking incident, Jagdish Singh Patani, retired deputy SP and father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, has fallen victim to an elaborate fraud, losing ₹25 lakh to a group of five individuals who promised him a high-ranking position in a government commission. The incident came to light on Friday evening when an FIR was registered at Bareilly’s Kotwali police station.
The accused individuals—Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash from Juna Akhara, Preeti Garg, and one unidentified accomplice—are facing serious charges, including cheating, criminal intimidation, and extortion. Kotwali police station in-charge D.K. Sharma confirmed that the police have launched a manhunt to arrest the suspects and take stringent action.
According to Patani’s complaint, the former deputy SP, who resides in Bareilly’s Civil Lines area, was introduced to the accused by Shivendra Pratap Singh, an individual he knew personally. The group claimed to have influential political ties and promised Patani a coveted position, such as chairman or vice-chairman, in a government commission. Trusting their promises, Patani handed over ₹25 lakh—₹5 lakh in cash and ₹20 lakh through bank transfers to three separate accounts.
However, after three months of no progress and empty assurances, Patani demanded his money back. Instead of returning the funds, the accused allegedly became aggressive, issuing threats and intimidating Patani. Further investigation revealed that the fraudsters had introduced an accomplice, Himanshu, who posed as an “officer on special duty,” further reinforcing their fabricated claims of political influence.
Suspicious of being swindled, Patani filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of the FIR and prompting authorities to act swiftly. Police are now investigating the case, determined to hold the culprits accountable for their actions.
