Numerous flights and multiple trains faced delays throughout northern India as a thick layer of fog covered several states, including Delhi, diminishing visibility during an ongoing cold wave in the area. Flight operations were briefly suspended, and some flights were redirected at Delhi airport due to zero runway visibility on Saturday morning.
More than 250 flights were delayed, and approximately 40 were cancelled because of the existing circumstances. Fifteen flights were redirected from the Delhi airport between 12:15 am and 1:30 am.
“Due to dense fog, flight operations have been affected at the airport. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” the airport authorities said.
The dense fog further affected train timetables and road traffic, leading to widespread disruption. In urban areas such as Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Lucknow, Agra, Karnal, Ghaziabad, Amritsar, Jaipur, and numerous other places, vehicles were traveling at very low speeds because of reduced visibility.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) declared an orange alert for Delhi on Saturday, cautioning about a “very dense fog” condition in the city. The city noted a temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am on Saturday, compared to 9.6 degrees Celsius on Friday.
Numerous states, such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and others, have similarly encountered thick fog conditions.
The weather department reports that comparable conditions are predicted to continue in the next few days. The most recent satellite image reveals the whole Indo-Gangetic Plain shrouded in fog.
