Denmark Open Badminton: PV Sindhu aims to regain lost form as she faces Chinese Taipe’s Pai Yu Po

In the opening round of women’s singles at the Denmark Open 2024 badminton tournament, PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, is all set to face Pai Yu Po from Chinese Taipei at Arena Fyn in Odense today.

Sindhu could potentially face China’s Han Yue in the second round if she progresses.

Under the mentorship of new coaches Anup Sridhar and Korea’s Lee Hyun-il, Sindhu will look to regain her lost touch.

World number 19 Lakshya Sen will face the 17th ranked Lu Guang Zu of China. However, no Indian pair will feature in the men’s doubles competition.

The Panda sisters Rutaparna and Swetaparna will face off against the Chinese Taipei pair Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun in the women’s doubles competition while Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath will take on Indonesian duo of Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati in mixed doubles.

Sindhu had lost in the first round at the Arctic Open

At the Arctic Open, Sindhu was defeated by Canada’s Michelle Li in two straight sets in the first round. Sindhu had a tough time getting into her groove and ended up losing 16-21, 10-21.

The Arctic Open was her first tournament after the Paris Olympics where she had a disappointing  campaign.

Sindhu’s recent performance have raised several eyebrows and this tournament gives her a chance to build momentum before several upcoming tournaments leading to the BWF World Championships.

The 33-year old Taiwanese Pai Yu Po started playing badminton at age 9, and debuted at the 2007 Vietnam International. Though Pai has had some good performances over her career, she doesn’t seem to be an intimidating opponent for Sindhu.

Given her great experience at international level, Sindhu is expected to overcome the Taiwanese.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
