Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing arrests Deepak Gupta for allegedly misappropriating funds
On Friday, Deepak Gupta, the brother-in-law of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, was arrested by the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly misappropriating funds. The couple, Ashneer Grover and Madhuri, were arrested after a police report was made in May 2023, accusing them of criminal breach of trust, cheating, and forgery.
Deepak Gupta is the husband of Madhuri Grover’s sister.
Gupta was previously Head of Procurement at BharatPe’s parent company Resilient Innovation.
As per ANI, Gupta is currently detained at EOW Police Station and will soon appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at Saket court.

Madhuri, the wife of Grover, has been charged with offenses under multiple sections, such as 406, 408, 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).

BharatPe seeks 81 crore in damages in lawsuit
This new legal case is in addition to a civil suit already filed by BharatPe against Grover and his family members. The lawsuit is demanding damages of up to Rs 81 crore, claiming misappropriation of funds.
BharatPe lodged a criminal complaint in December 2022 against five people, which included co-founder Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri Grover, her brother Shwetank Jain, her father Suresh Jain, and Deepak Gupta.

Last month, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) detained Amit Kumar Bansal for supposedly taking Rs 72 crore from BharatPe directors from 2019 to 2021. Bansal was one of the members of non-existing firms that received the funds.
