Curfew imposed after clashes break out between two groups in Odisha’s Balasore
A curfew was enforced in Odisha’s Balasore on Monday following a clash between two groups over animal sacrificial blood on the road during Bakrid. Internet service was also halted in numerous parts of town.
The curfew will be effective from the midnight of June 17 to midnight of June 18.
Section 144 imposed; internet suspended
The Balasore district government has implemented Section 144 of the CrPC in response to the clash, according to ANI. According to PTI, authorities have also suspended internet services in critical locations and encouraged inhabitants to remain indoors.
Police announced, “All entry points to the OT Road were closed,” and emphasised that “No person shall leave their homes or shall move on foot, or by vehicle or travel except for emergency medical aid.”

Balasore SP Sagarika Nath revealed that a curfew has been implemented in the Balasore municipality area. “All commercial establishments and shops will stay closed.
Violent clashes between two groups on Bakri-Eid
The confrontation started when a group of protesters held a sit-in protest against the blood of an animal sacrificed on the road. The animal was sacrificed as part of the Bakri Eid ceremony.
Another group allegedly threw stones at the demonstrators, causing the conflict. Several people, including police, were injured during the fights.
The assailants did not limit their fury to the larger areas, but also stormed other villages, throwing stones at houses and setting them on fire. The situation became so heated that police had to use blank shooting to retake control and disperse the throng. The police reported that at least 20 automobiles had been damaged.

CM Mohan Charan Majhi speaks to Balasore collector to control the situation
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke with Balasore Collector Ashish Thakare on Monday, urging prompt action to contain the situation.
Sanjay Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), also visited the town, and the police held a flag march in Balasore.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Sanjay Kumar, is currently stationed at Balasore. A police flag march was held, and about 30 people have been arrested thus far.
