Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, finally hit theatres on August 14 amid massive expectations. The action thriller, which brought together a star-studded ensemble cast, was touted as one of the biggest pan-Indian releases of the year. However, despite its grand scale, the film has faced sharp criticism from audiences and critics alike for its writing and screenplay loopholes.
Still, Coolie has managed to become the top-grossing Tamil film of 2025 so far, raking in nearly Rs. 200 crore from India alone.
Where to Watch Coolie on OTT
After its theatrical run, Coolie will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. OTTplay Premium subscribers can also access the film by opting for a Prime Video add-on. While the official streaming date has not yet been announced, reports suggest that Coolie is expected to premiere on Prime Video by the end of September 2025. An official confirmation is expected next month.

The Story of Coolie
The film follows Deva (Rajinikanth), a mansion owner who learns about the mysterious death of his old friend. Teaming up with his friend’s daughter, Preethi, Deva begins to uncover the truth, only to find himself up against a ruthless smuggling syndicate led by the kingpin Simon.

Cast and Crew
Apart from Rajinikanth, Coolie features an impressive ensemble, including Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Rachita Ram, Kaali Venkat, Kanna Ravi, and Aamir Khan in pivotal roles.
The film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Girish Gangadharan. Unlike Lokesh’s previous projects, Coolie is a standalone film and does not fall under the popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
While Coolie has been praised for its action sequences and Rajinikanth’s commanding screen presence, the film has largely disappointed audiences due to its subpar writing and narrative flaws. Nevertheless, its OTT release is expected to draw significant attention from fans awaiting Rajinikanth’s digital comeback.
