Chennai: Woman gets son arrested for substance abuse; assists cops in busting gang

The mother of a truck driver in Chennai arrested her son for substance misuse, assisting cops in busting a ganja (cannabis) smuggling ring, officials claimed.

Sriram, a cargo vehicle driver, has just developed the habit of using cannabis oil. When his mother Bagyalaskhmi became aware of this, she notified MKB Nagar Police on Wednesday.

Police recover ganja worth Rs 2 lakh from Sriram’s house

Upon reaching Sriram’s house, cops recovered 630 ml of ganja oil worth Rs 2 lakh.

The team then took Sriram to the police station for interrogation. He revealed that while returning from a cargo journey in Odisha, he took 300 mL of ganja oil from Andhra Pradesh.

According to Sriram, this was part of a contact made by one Arun from Kerala, who then gave over the item to an unknown individual at a roundabout in Chennai’s Madhavaram area.

Police identify ‘Ganja Brothers’ behind racket

The police then traced down the accomplice to Vyasarpadi and identified him as Satish, Arun’s brother, who were known as the ‘Ganja Brothers’.

The duo utilized Sriram and Pervez, another load vehicle driver, to smuggle marijuana from neighboring states. They recently added cannabis oil, claiming it was easier to transport because it was impossible for sniffer dogs to detect.

Sriram discovered the racket after using a small amount of the 630 ml ganja oil that was supposed to be given to a local peddler following Arun’s instructions.

But when Sriram’s mother noticed her son’s behavior alter after swallowing the oil, she notified the cops, assisting them in busting the racket.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
