Facing a precarious political future after a setback in Delhi, the AAP achieved significant victories in the by-elections in Ludhiana West, Punjab, and Visavadar, Gujarat.
Simultaneously, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) achieved a significant victory in Nilambur, Kerala. The BJP, although running candidates in all five bypolls, succeeded only in winning Kadi in Gujarat.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress held onto Kaliganj in West Bengal, which is set for elections next year.
Punjab and Gujarat Bypolls
The AAP put forth its utmost effort in the Ludhiana West bypoll, with its key leaders – Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Atishi – actively campaigning for Arora. Kejriwal took a personal role in managing the campaign, as the Punjab elections approached in under two years.
AAP’s Gopal Italia secured the Visavadar seat by a margin of 17,554 votes, whereas BJP’s Rajendra Chavda claimed the Kadi seat with a margin of 39,452 votes. TMC’s Alifa Ahmed secured the Kaliganj seat with a winning margin of 49,755 votes.
In Kadi, the BJP’s Rajendra Chavda has claimed the seat, winning by a margin of more than 39,000 votes. The seat has remained unfilled since February after the passing of BJP MLA Karsan Solanki. Situated within the Mehsana district, this constituency is set aside for candidates from the Scheduled Castes.
AAP’s Sanjeev Arora triumphed in Ludhiana with a margin of 10,637 votes, while Congress-Led UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath defeated CPIM’s M Swaraj in Nilambur by more than 11,000 votes.

Kerala Bypolls
The United Democratic Front (UDF), led by Congress, secured the Nilambur seat in Kerala with its 2016 candidate Aryadan Shoukath, triumphing over the incumbent Left’s M Swaraj by more than 11,000 votes.
Shoukath, the son of Aryadan Mohammad who had secured the seat eight times, garnered 77,737 votes. M Swaraj secured 66,660 votes.
West Bengal Bypolls
In the Kaliganj constituency of Bengal’s Nadia district, Alifa Ahmed, the candidate from the ruling Trinamool Congress, achieved a resounding win with a lead of more than 50,000 votes.
The by-election in Kaliganj, located in West Bengal’s Nadia district, was required following the passing of Trinamool Congress MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed in February. The governing party nominated his daughter, Alifa Ahamed, for the by-election.
The BJP nominated Ashis Ghosh, while the Congress picked Kabil Uddin Shaikh with backing from the CPI(M). The Kaliganj bypoll on June 19 saw a voter turnout of 73.36%.
